Matthew Melander, DO

Dr. Matthew Melander is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist who sees patients every Tuesday at the PCMH Louisiana Medical Clinic. He provides surgical and non-surgical orthopedic care for patients dealing with joint pain, sports injuries, arthritis, and other conditions that affect movement and quality of life.

Dr. Melander specializes in ACL reconstruction, total knee replacement, arthroscopic surgery, joint replacement, sports medicine, and minimally invasive orthopedic procedures right here at PCMH in our Surgery Center. His goal is to help each patient understand their condition, explore the right treatment options, and get back to the activities that matter most to them.

Dr. Melander earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of New England in Maine and completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis. He went on to complete a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Methodist Sports Medicine Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. During his fellowship, he served as a Team Fellow for the Indianapolis Colts during their 2007 Super Bowl championship season.

He is board-certified in both Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine and has served as past president of the Sports Medicine Section of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics. Throughout his career, Dr. Melander has presented on sports medicine and workers’ compensation care and has contributed to peer-reviewed medical literature.

As an avid marathon runner, Dr. Melander understands how frustrating it can be when pain or an injury keeps you from doing what you enjoy. He treats patients of all activity levels, from competitive athletes and student-athletes to patients who simply want to walk, work, or complete everyday activities with less pain.
