Patient Visitation Rights, Visiting Hours, and Rules

To ensure PCMH respects the rights of patient to choose who may visit them when they are a patient of this hospital.

To ensure all visitors enjoy full and equal visitation privileges consistent with patient preferences.

Policy

PCMH shall inform each patient (or support person) of his or her visitation rights including restrictions or limitations on such rights. This information shall be given whenever possible prior to administering patient care.

Visitation rights include the patient's right, subject to his/her consent, to receive the visitors whom he/she designates. including, but not limited to, a spouse, a domestic partner (including same sex domestic partner), another family member, or a friend, as well as the right to or deny such consent at any time. This right allows an individual of the patient's choosing to be present with the patient for emotional support during the course of their hospital stay.

Visitors are not restricted, limited, or otherwise denied visitation privileges on the basis of race, color, national origin. religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability.

Rules & Restrictions

  • Normal hours are during daylight hours until 8:00 pm. These hours may be adjusted ill special circumstances and are at the discretion of the Charge Nurse and/or House Supervisor.
  • The number of visitors at one time and/or the age of the visitors may be limited to minimize disruption to the patient (or other patients) or to the workflow of the unit.
  • Visitation may be limited or restricted as necessary to ensure the health of our patients, if medically or therapeutically contraindicated, or if it infringes on rights of others.
  • Visiting privileges may be restricted by the disease and/or obvious health condition of the visitor in the event that it poses a risk to the patient or to others.
  • Visitors may be limited according to measures necessary for infection control.
  • Visitors must adhere to precautions appropriate for isolation.
  • Visitors may be restricted at the request of the patient or patient advocate.
  • Emergency room and Out-Patient Surgery visitors are limited to one individual at a time or per Unit Supervisor's discretion depending upon patient's condition and/or until needs.
  • Deviations from this policy and/or questions arising as a result of this policy may be referred to the Administrator, Director of Nursing, or Infection Control Committee Chairperson.
