24 Hour Emergency

PCMH Emergency Services

The Emergency Department is open and staffed 24/7 with RN’s and an Emergency physician to meet the needs of the community for emergency care.  Our goal is to provide quality and compassionate care to our community.  The Emergency Department and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) work together to ensure that patients are evaluated and timely care is established.  Patients presenting with Stroke and Heart Attack symptoms are managed utilizing established best practices of care.

PCMH is recognized by the State of Missouri as a Level III Stroke Center.  Patients who call 911 or present to the Emergency Department with signs of a Stroke will be cared for by a team which is trained in stroke specific care. The Emergency Department and EMS have been trained in recognizing the symptoms of a stroke, leading to a decrease in time from arrival to treatment. Currently, PCMH has the ability to transmit CT scans of the brain to select stroke centers to be evaluated by a neurologist immediately for an expert consult. This expert consult can suggest treatment options up to and including TPA, often referred to as the "clot buster" to treat strokes-which can be given at PCMH. Patients who have bleeding in the brain can also benefit from the early recognition and treatment of symptoms such as elevated blood pressure and high clotting times.

Patients that are experiencing heart attack symptoms, such as chest pain, will have an EKG completed upon arrival to the Emergency Department.  The Emergency Physician will review the EKG in order to provide rapid recognition so that timely and quality care delivery can be provided .

PCMH Emergency Department has developed protocols and treatment options, which maximize the chance for early recognition and treatment of these potentially deadly conditions.
