History

Pike County Hospital first opened its doors in March of 1928. The original building consisted of three floors, plus one ground floor. The facility was a 64-bed hospital inclusive of the most up-to-date equipment and furnishings of that time. In September of 1951, a three-story addition to Pike County Hospital was completed. In May of 1969, plans for a new, larger Pike County Hospital were developed. The plans called for an 80-bed facility to be erected east of and adjacent to the original Pike County Hospital. On December 26, 1972, the new Pike County Memorial Hospital was dedicated. The name was changed to reflect the numerous donations to the hospital, as well as to commemorate the services of the armed forces during World War II. On January 1, 1974, PCMH took over the county ambulance service, and continues to maintain it. Since 1928, PCMH has been employing local professionals in caring for their Pike County neighbors. PCMH has grown to an acute inpatient and outpatient care facility focused on meeting the family health care needs of this area.
